James: It is of great significance. There are several easy to find tools around which can bruteforce passwords for many services such as your email account, bank account, and other accounts for websites such as forums.

FW Editor: Which other software were your inspirations behind creating SaveMeLabs Password Generator?
James: It was mainly a test. It was something i created whilst learning to program and I felt that it may have been useful for general computer users.

FW Editor: Do you have any development plans in future for SaveMeLabs Password Generator?
James: We have got another version which is nearly ready for release, which includes lots of new features… However it will still be very simple to use.

FW Editor: Will the users get access to any special features like free software upgrades etc.?
James: Our Password Generator is completely free, whilst you can not update within the software users are able to download the latest version from our website.

FW Editor: What was your idea behind offering SaveMeLabs Password Generator as a freeware?
James: I feel that for something which should be common sense, charging for it would be outrageous.

FW Editor: Do you have any plans to create an API or a SDK for developers to benefit from SaveMeLabs Password Generator?
James: I do not feel that it would be worth the effort. However in the future it is possible we will release the Password Generator as open-source.

FW Editor: How would you rate SaveMeLabs Password Generator in comparison with other similar products?
James: I think the key thing of our Password Generator is the simplicity. While the new version is a little more complicated, it is still simple to use and does not store any information on the users machine.

FW Editor: If you had to choose any single feature of SaveMeLabs Password Generator that you find most attractive, what will it be?
James: Again, the simplicity. The simple GUI allows users to quickly get what they need, without any effort at all.

FW Editor: Any special tips for your users?
James: Stay tuned, the new version will be worth the wait.

Today we are announcing a new product. It will be very similar to our previous ScareAware product, however it will be much more modern and will have a nice GUI. While I can’t give off much information yet (we have not thought of most of it) here is what we are planning…

Nice GUI – The GUI will be much more modern and sophisticated than our previous product, ScareAware. It will include a progress bar, and additional information about detected objects and the status of removal.

An advanced updater. Our previous updater displayed no data on the progress at all, however our new updater will include information such as % finished, progress bar, downloaded so far, total size of the update, and possibly more.

Instead of having to update the code for the program each time we wish to add new detections, the new product will be signature based… The difference is that our database will be entirely open source, with the detections in an INI file allowing anyone to see what we currently detect and help us to improve our detections.

The information displayed during scanning and removal will be much like other infection removal products of today. It will display what file is it currently scanning, and then whether or not the removal was successful.

So far, we have not come up with a name however we are open to suggestions. We will be looking for new team members in order to help us keep detections up to date. Please feel free to use our contact page to get in contact with us on any subject, including any partnership offers you may have… We respond to every email we receive and look forward to hearing from you.

What is this new product?
The new product is essentially a Malware removal tool. It will remove specific strains of Malware such as Scareware, Adware, Toolbars, and other similar unwanted items.

We will have more details on this exciting announcement soon, and we have other product releases in store for you!

Our partner, BidenPC, has released a new product; EZ-IP.

The official description is below:

Are you a computer network tech that is constantly changing IP Addresses? Are you a PC user who wonders “How do I change my IP Address?” Do you ever wonder “What is my MAC Address?”

This is exactly what EZ-IP does. It will allow you to set your IP Address statically or dynamically and you can also see exactly what your MAC Address is.

In the case that you have more than one network card, such as Ethernet or Wireless, there is a drop-down menu to choose which network card the software is referring to so you aren’t stuck with being able to change the address of just one network card.

Biden PC’s EZ-IP allows you to:
View settings for any or all of your network cards.
Change your IP Address from DHCP to Static.
Edit your Default gateway.
Change your Subnet Mask.
View your MAC Addresses.
Set your DNS servers to static addresses.
Change it all from being Static to DHCP.

You are free to use and redistribute EZ-IP in any way that you see fit. This is excepted by the fact that you are not allowed to charge for it, add it to a software or hardware bundle, rebrand it, remove any links, or decompile it.

You can get it from http://www.bidenpc.com/ez-ip.html

Since the release of ScareAware, there has been nothing but positive feedback for SaveMeLabs and for this I thank you! The idea of this post is just to inform you on what happening in the future…

The first major change, is the discontinuation of our ScareAware product. The main reason behind this is because for one product, it was taking up so much time! As you may recall, in the previous post I mentioned how it is tricky trying to program new software whilst also keeping ScareAware updated. Although ScareAware lived for only a few months, it was definitely not a waste of time based on the positive response from the community and the 4000 downloads that ScareAware managed to get which is pretty impressive considering it was our first project. We have decided that ScareAware will stay on all of the current download sites, however we believe it is for the best that we do not release the source code for this project (although we are looking forward to the possibility of future open-source projects!).

Moving on, I want to give a little info on some future products.
Most of the products currently in development are going to be aimed at helping the user complete tasks otherwise difficult or time consuming and a perfect example is something we have been working on for several weeks currently nearing completion…

Have you ever reinstalled your computer and been faced with the task of reinstalling the software you had previously? Common programs such as your Web Browser, Anti-Malware Software, and your computer maintenance programs? Occasionally you may copy the setup files from your downloads folder before reinstalling, or have the setup files on an external HD or a USB key… however there is a good chance that the setup files you have are outdated. This is what the new software will help with! Many common programs will be included, and we will ensure that we always keep it updated with the latest download.

So how does it work? It is very simple really, it is a typical interface with a few tabs and checkboxes. We could have included a lot of bells and whistles however we decided that simple is best. So you click the checkbox you want, and it will download the software from the publisher or other reliable source. The tabs will have different categories of software such as Security Software, Maintenance Software, and some other categories.

Whilst it may not sound like the next award winning software, it is a small utility which has the potential to help many users. Of course, the software will be free and the source code may well be released in future. We expect the release date to be some time in the next week or two, if all goes to plan.

For starters we have switched to the WordPress platform, which provides us with with more control and features for the website. We have change the website layout (yes, that hideous header image from the last layout is gone!) and it should be more friendly for all screen resolutions.
